What is it ???

Well, The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system made out of over 2,900 single reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometres over an area of about 344,400 square kilometres! The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of The Sunshine State, Australia.

Why is it special?

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the planet's most AMAZING natural wonders, it"s largest coral reef system and the only living organism that can be spotted from space! Protecting the reef is essential given its extraordinary ecosystem and infinite number marine life.

Why does it need to be saved???

Well the thing is, half of the Great Barrier Reef has been bleached to death since 2016. Mass coral bleaching, a global problem triggered by climate change, occurs when unnaturally hot ocean water destroys a reef's colorful algae, leaving the coral to starve. See what I mean?! :"<

Here are some things you could do!
- Opt to cycle or walk to school/work (if possible)
- Get involved with Meatless Monday.
-Cut out single-use plastics such as plastic bags, straws
or takeaway coffee cups.
- Plant an edible garden.
- Pick up and dispose of any litter
you come across.
- Dine in, not take away (unless you don't have an option)
- Avoid packaged foods where possible.
